Volunteer's Role in Reading Saturday

Volunteers provide support to the Reading Saturday program for first grade students. In a one-to-one or one-to-two format, they model good reading skills while following a simple lesson plan and mentoring children in the development of reading comprehension and sight vocabulary.

"Sometimes people wonder if they can give up an hour or two of "free time" to mentor a student on Saturday morning.  There may not be another activity you can do that will make you feel more productive and give you the same opportunity to impact a person's life."

  Kemir Baker, volunteer reading mentor
