About Us

For ten years, the Omosaze Reading Saturday program has helped children experience the wonder of learning, the pride of achievement, and the excitement of unlimited possibilities.

The greatest reward for parents, staff and volunteers is to see a child who was struggling with school transform into one who enjoys reading and demonstrates newfound confidence and success in academic and social endeavors.

In 2009-2010 an after-school Reading Club was introduced, allowing an even greater number of children to realize the benefits of becoming good readers.

Our History

Omosaze was established in 1999 to help with severe reading deficiencies volunteers encountered while working in a Marietta, Georgia public housing community. In 2001, Omosaze implemented its weekend curriculum, Reading Saturday.

Reading Saturday was originally targeted to students in grades 1-2, expanding over the years to include grades 3-5

Enrollment and Staffing

Participation has grown from 10 students in a single school to more than 200 students per year from several schools in Cobb County.

Student-teacher ratios are maintained at 8:1 or better. The average number of volunteers spending one-on-one reading time with first grade students each year is 50.
