About Us

For six years, Omosaze, Inc. and its Reading Saturday program have helped children experience the wonder of learning, the pride of achievement, and the excitement of unlimited possibilities.

The greatest reward for Reading Saturday parents, staff and volunteers is to see a child who was struggling with school transform into one who enjoys reading and demonstrates newfound confidence and success in academic and social endeavors.

Our History

Omosaze, Inc. was established in 1999 to help with severe reading deficiencies volunteers encountered while working in a Marietta, Georgia public housing community.

For three years we partnered with Sylvan Learning Centers in Cobb County, which offered Omosaze a substantial discount off of their normal rate.

In 2001, Sylvan rescinded its discount. As a result, Omosaze consulted with Early Childhood Education staff at Kennesaw State University and other education professionals to phase out use of Sylvan and implement Reading Saturday

Reading Saturday was originally targeted to students in first and second grade. Third grade was added in 2004-2005, followed by a fourth and fifth grade pilot in 2007-2008.

Enrollment and Staffing

Since the program’s inception, it has grown from serving 10 students (2001-2002) in a single Marietta County school to a final enrollment of 130 students (2007-2008) from five schools in Cobb County. In 2008-2009, Reading Saturday will be expanded to include students from two additional schools.

Student-teacher ratios are maintained at 8:1 or better. The average number of volunteers spending one-on-one reading time with first grade students each year is 50.
