Our Purpose

Omosaze places struggling elementary students and under-performing schools on a more successful path with quality after school program reading instruction. Our signature program is Reading Saturday, a 22-week reading curriculum based on Georgia Department of Education standards, taught by certified teachers in a small group format, and supported by a set of volunteer reading mentors.

We seek to empower elementary children to succeed by providing structured instruction in reading in a supportive environment that reinforces positive attitudes about learning.

Our goals are to increase the number of students who are passing grade-level reading and vocabulary tests, passing the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) in reading, and participating confidently in school activities.

We serve students in 1st through 5th grade through our Saturday reading curriculum, offered in partnership with five public schools in the Cobb County/Marietta City School Districts. Candidate schools have a high number of low-income students.

"Reading Saturday helped my child improve her reading and made her more interested in doing so.  She now enjoys reading and attempts to write stories."

  Kirsten James, parent

Reading Saturday

Reading Saturday is offered in cooperation with public schools in Cobb County, Georgia.  It consists of 22 sessions, three and a half hours each, held three Saturdays a month between October and May.  The Saturday format allows students and teachers to approach learning with a fresh mind. Student-to-teacher ratios are maintained at 8:1 or better.

Learning objectives and course content for the Reading Saturday program are derived from the Georgia Department of Education Standards. Learn more about our curriculum.

"My daughter now loves reading because she is more confident. She enjoys reading for leisure, not just for homework."

  Noelle Thomas, Parent

“Before Reading Saturday, Anthony would get mad when I told him to read a book. Now he loves to read. He reads at night without me telling him to. I also see a big difference in his grades.”

- Patricia Merino, Parent of Reading Saturday Student

“I honestly felt like I helped to make a difference when Jose scored a 215 out of 220 on his sight words (after starting the program at 162). I left on my last day with tears in my eyes because I was so proud and happy.”

- Amanda Wade, Reading Mentor
