Our Purpose

Omosaze places struggling elementary students and under-performing schools on a more successful path through quality reading instruction offered outside of traditional school hours.

We seek to instill a passion for learning among underperforming students by providing exceptional  reading instruction outside of regular school hours.

Our goals are to increase the number of students who are passing grade-level reading and vocabulary tests, passing the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) in reading, and participating confidently in school activities.

We offer three programs, which take advantage of out-of-school learning times during:

bullet

weekdays after-school (Reading Club)

bullet

weekends (Reading Saturday)

bullet

summer vacation (Summer Literacy Camp).

Reading Saturday was established in 2001. Reading Club and Literacy Camp will debut in 2009-2010.

We serve students in 1st through 5th grade. Currently, our programs are offered in partnership with seven public schools in the Cobb County/Marietta City School Districts. Partner schools have a high number of low-income students.

Omosaze is also exploring partnerships with other after-school and summer education providers in the community to assist a greater number of students.

"Reading Saturday helped my child improve her reading and made her more interested in doing so.  She now enjoys reading and attempts to write stories."

  Kirsten James, parent

“Before Reading Saturday, Anthony would get mad when I told him to read a book. Now he loves to read. He reads at night without me telling him to. I also see a big difference in his grades.”

- Patricia Merino, Parent of Reading Saturday Student

"I like watching students blossom from shy, inhibited readers

to outgoing, fantastic readers."

- Amy Buddie, Reading Saturday Volunteer
